What age athletes do you train?

We train youth athletes ages 8-18 across all sports and skill levels. Our programs are specifically designed for developing bodies and organized by age groups: 8-10 (Foundations), 11-13 (Development), 14-16 (Performance), and 17-18 (Elite/College Prep). Each age group follows age-appropriate training protocols that prioritize long-term athletic development and injury prevention.

Does my child need sports experience to train with you?

No prior experience is required. We train athletes at all skill levels, from beginners just starting their athletic journey to elite athletes competing at the highest levels. Our coaches are experts at meeting each athlete where they are and creating appropriate progressions for their current abilities.

What should my athlete bring to their first session?

Athletes should wear athletic clothing (shorts/athletic pants and a t-shirt) and bring athletic shoes suitable for indoor training. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and a positive attitude. All equipment, including weights, training tools, and recovery equipment, is provided at our facility.

Can parents watch training sessions?

Absolutely! We have a comfortable viewing area where parents can watch sessions. We encourage parents to observe, especially during initial sessions, so they can see our coaching methods and their athlete’s progress. However, we do ask that parents allow our coaches to lead the sessions without interference to maintain proper training flow and athlete focus.

Pricing & Membership

How much does training cost?

Our small group training programs range from $240-$480 per month depending on the program, session frequency, and package length. Month-to-month options start at $280/month for 2x per week training. We also offer 3-month and 6-month packages at discounted rates. Private 1-on-1 training ranges from $75-95 per session. View complete pricing details here.

Do you require long-term contracts?

No. We offer flexible month-to-month memberships with no long-term commitment required. While we do offer discounted 3-month and 6-month packages for families who want to commit longer-term, you’re never locked into a contract that isn’t working for your family.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes! We offer automatic sibling discounts: 10% off for 2 siblings and 15% off for 3+ siblings training together. These discounts apply to the total monthly cost and are automatically calculated when you enroll multiple athletes from the same family.

Are there any hidden fees or additional costs?

No hidden fees, ever. The price you see is what you pay. There are no registration fees, no annual fees, no equipment fees, and no surprise charges. All equipment, facility usage, performance testing, and training app access are included in your membership cost.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), ACH bank transfers, checks, and cash. Monthly memberships are set up on automatic billing (1st of each month), while package deals can be paid upfront or split into installments.

Do you offer financial assistance or scholarships?

Yes. Palmetto Performance is committed to making quality training accessible to all motivated young athletes in the Charleston community. We offer need-based scholarships and flexible payment plans for families facing financial hardship. Contact us confidentially to discuss scholarship opportunities.

Programs & Training

What sports do you train athletes for?

We train athletes for all sports including baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball, track and field, swimming, and more. Our performance training builds foundational speed, strength, power, and agility that transfers across all sports. We also offer sport-specific programs for baseball/softball, basketball, football, and soccer that focus on sport-specific movement patterns and skills. Learn more about our programs.

What is the difference between small group and private 1-on-1 training?

Small group training (1:6 coach-to-athlete ratio) combines personalized attention with the motivation and energy of training partners. Most athletes (90%) thrive in this environment. Private 1-on-1 training provides 100% dedicated coach attention and is best for athletes with specific needs like injury rehab, intensive sport-specific work, or flexible scheduling requirements. Small group is more cost-effective ($30-37/session) compared to private training ($75-95/session).

How many days per week should my athlete train?

We recommend 2-3 training sessions per week for most youth athletes. This provides optimal frequency for building speed, strength, and power while allowing adequate recovery time. Athletes training for multiple sports or with higher-level goals may train 3-4x per week during off-season. During competitive season, many athletes reduce to 2x per week to balance training with sport practices and games.

Can my athlete train during their sports season or just off-season?

Yes! Year-round training is ideal for continuous athletic development. Our in-season programs are specifically designed to maintain and enhance performance without causing fatigue or interfering with sport practices. We adjust training intensity and volume based on your athlete’s competition schedule. Many athletes train 3-4x per week in the off-season and 2x per week during their competitive season.

Will training make my child too bulky or slow?

No. This is a common myth about youth strength training. Our age-appropriate training programs are designed to build functional strength, explosive power, and speed – not bodybuilding-style muscle mass. Youth athletes don’t have the hormones to build excessive muscle, and our training methodology focuses on movement quality, relative strength, and power-to-weight ratio. The result is faster, more powerful, and more athletic kids.

Is strength training safe for young athletes?

Yes, when done properly. Research consistently shows that age-appropriate strength training is not only safe but highly beneficial for youth athletes. Our certified coaches (CSCS) use evidence-based progressions that prioritize movement quality and proper technique before adding intensity. We have a perfect safety record with zero training-related injuries since 2018. Youth athletes are more likely to get injured playing their sport without proper training than they are in a professionally supervised training environment.

Do you train athletes who play multiple sports?

Absolutely! We strongly encourage multi-sport participation, especially for younger athletes (under 14). Our performance training builds the foundational athleticism that benefits all sports. We actually offer a 5% multi-sport discount for athletes training for 2+ sports. Sport specialization too early is a leading cause of burnout and overuse injuries – we believe in developing well-rounded athletes.

Results & Performance

How long before my athlete sees results?

Most athletes notice improvements in confidence, movement quality, and work capacity within 2-3 weeks. Measurable improvements in speed (faster sprint times) typically occur within 4-6 weeks. Significant strength gains usually take 8-12 weeks of consistent training. Long-term athletic development is a marathon, not a sprint – the athletes who train consistently for 6+ months see the most dramatic and sustainable improvements.

How do you measure and track progress?

We use comprehensive performance testing every quarter including: laser-timed sprint tests (10-yard, 40-yard), agility tests (pro agility, L-drill), strength assessments (appropriate for age), vertical and broad jump measurements, and movement quality screenings. All data is tracked in our training app so athletes and parents can see objective progress over time. We also provide detailed progress reports with personalized recommendations.

What kind of results can we expect?

Results vary based on starting point, consistency, and individual factors, but typical improvements after 6 months include: 0.1-0.3 seconds faster in the 40-yard dash, 2-4 inches higher vertical jump, 15-25% strength increases, improved movement quality and reduced injury risk, better body composition, and increased confidence and mental toughness. Our athletes also report better performance in their sports, including making varsity teams, earning starting positions, and receiving college recruiting interest. Read our athlete success stories.

Will training help my athlete get recruited for college?

Yes. Since 2018, over 200 of our athletes have earned college athletic placements and scholarships. While we can’t guarantee college recruitment (that depends on many factors including sport-specific skills, academics, and recruiting effort), our training significantly improves the athletic qualities college coaches evaluate: speed, strength, power, and athleticism. For high school athletes, we also provide recruiting guidance, help with highlight videos, and connections to college coaches in our network.

We believe in earning your business through results, not trapping you in contracts.

What if my athlete gets injured?

With medical documentation, we can freeze your membership for up to 60 days while your athlete recovers. When cleared by their doctor to return to activity, we’ll work with them on safe return-to-play protocols that rebuild strength and confidence while protecting the injured area. Our coaches have extensive experience working with post-injury athletes and can modify training as needed.

Do you offer team training for youth sports teams?

Yes! We offer team training packages for school teams, travel teams, and recreational teams of 8+ athletes. Team training is a cost-effective way to improve your entire team’s performance while building team chemistry. Contact us for custom team pricing and scheduling options.

Can my athlete switch programs or change session frequency?

Absolutely. As your athlete’s needs change (sports seasons, schedule conflicts, goal shifts), we can adjust their program. You can move between 2x, 3x, or 4x per week training, switch from small group to private training (or vice versa), or change to a different program focus. We’re flexible and work with your family’s needs.

Safety & Qualifications

What qualifications do your coaches have?

All Palmetto Performance coaches hold professional certifications including CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), SCCC (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified), or equivalent credentials. Our coaches also have playing or coaching experience at college or professional levels. Most importantly, they specialize in youth athletic development and understand the unique needs of developing athletes. Meet our coaching team.

What safety measures do you have in place?

Safety is our top priority. All coaches are CPR/AED certified and background checked. Our facility uses age-appropriate equipment with built-in safety features. We maintain low coach-to-athlete ratios (1:6 or better) for proper supervision. Every athlete receives movement screening to identify injury risk factors. We follow evidence-based progression models that prioritize technique before intensity. Our safety record speaks for itself: zero training-related injuries since 2018.

Are you insured?

Yes. Palmetto Performance carries comprehensive general liability insurance and professional liability insurance. All athletes training at our facility are covered under our insurance policies during training sessions.
